Live Event: Silicon Valley Over the Next Ten Years - What a Board Director Needs to Know

On May 19, 2022, Mark Lon­er­gan mod­er­at­ed a very spe­cial pan­el for the Sil­i­con Val­ley Direc­tors Exchange — the first live event for this board orga­ni­za­tion in two years. On the pan­el were dis­tin­guished board direc­tors and thought lead­ers Jack Lazar, Michelle Lee, and Paul Saf­fo to pro­pose, dis­cuss, and debate what future ori­ent­ed issues board direc­tors ought to be think­ing about today.

Jack Lazar

Jack is a pub­lic and pri­vate com­pa­ny CFO, GM and Cor­po­rate Devel­op­ment exec­u­tive with expe­ri­ence man­ag­ing Oper­a­tions, Finance, Account­ing, Investor Rela­tions, Cor­po­rate Devel­op­ment, Busi­ness Devel­op­ment, HR, Legal, Sales Oper­a­tions, Pro­gram Man­age­ment and IT func­tions. Com­plet­ed three IPOs and been the CFO at 4 pub­lic com­pa­nies and 1 pri­vate com­pa­ny (that was even­tu­al­ly sold). Board mem­ber and advi­sor for two com­pa­nies while com­plet­ing their IPOs. Raised over $4 bil­lion in financ­ings and exe­cut­ed ~$15 bil­lion in M&A trans­ac­tions. Michelle Lee

Michelle is a tech­nol­o­gy exec­u­tive, board mem­ber, for­mer CEO of a $3.4 bil­lion orga­ni­za­tion, dig­i­tal trans­for­ma­tion strate­gist, MIT Arti­fi­cial Intel­li­gence Lab-trained com­put­er sci­en­tist, Sil­i­con Val­ley vet­er­an expe­ri­enced in scal­ing fast-grow­ing com­pa­nies with dis­rup­tive tech­nolo­gies, and top intel­lec­tu­al prop­er­ty expert. She is a leader with expe­ri­ence at the high­est lev­els in tech­nol­o­gy, law, busi­ness and gov­ern­ment who spent most of her career build­ing and advis­ing some of the country’s most inno­v­a­tive com­pa­nies. Ms. Lee was pre­vi­ous­ly Under Sec­re­tary of Com­merce and Direc­tor of the U.S. Patent & Trade­mark Office, being the first woman to serve as Direc­tor in the country’s 220+ year his­to­ry, and is an advo­cate for women and girls in sci­ence, tech­nol­o­gy, engi­neer­ing, math and com­put­ers. She was also Vice Pres­i­dent of Ama­zon Web Ser­vices Machine Learn­ing Solu­tions Lab. Ms. Lee also served as a inde­pen­dent direc­tor pub­lic and pri­vate com­pa­ny boards includ­ing for Uni­ty, Mass­Mu­tu­al, Cal­lis­to Media, alarm​.com, and Nau­to, Inc.

Paul Saf­fo

Paul is a Sil­i­con Val­ley-based fore­cast­er who stud­ies the dynam­ics of large-scale, long-term tech­no­log­i­cal change. He teach­es at Stan­ford where he is an Adjunct Pro­fes­sor in the School of Engi­neer­ing and is Chair of Future Stud­ies at Sin­gu­lar­i­ty Uni­ver­si­ty. Paul is also a non-res­i­dent Senior Fel­low at the Atlantic Coun­cil, and a Fel­low of the Roy­al Swedish Acad­e­my of Engi­neer­ing Sci­ences. Paul holds degrees from Har­vard Col­lege, Cam­bridge Uni­ver­si­ty, and Stan­ford University.
